What Niles is Reading vol 2

oh no! this page and michael's poetry volume 6 somehow got deleted. i don't know how it happened (i don't think any of us did it by accident, otherwise i'd be able to revert to an earlier edition for both pages), perhaps zoho deemed the pages to influential on the future of mankind and had them wiped clean. anyways, i'm going to redo this one and i hope michael will redo his 6th edition of poetry (i am very interested to see who else dies in the redwall series, as i just checked out "redwall"). so here i go with "what niles is reading vol. 2":

ok, so i know what it looks like. i've been watching a few too many "buffy the vampire slayer" reruns. actually, this book really surprised me when i read it. i completely expected this to be about some too-tough kid getting transferred to a new school where everyone is a vampire and how he has to fight every day to survive and not be turned into one. well, okay, i was right about him being transferred to a new school where everyone is a vampire. but i was wrong about everything else.

the story begins with cody elliot, a fairly normal kid, failing out of his latest school. it's not that he's dumb, he's just not interested. his parents, at this point a little fed up with their son, give him the option of attending Our Lady of Perpetual Homework boarding school or going to Vlad Dracul Magnet School on a water polo scholarship. obviously he chooses the water polo. wait...water polo? scholarship? water polo scholarship??? ok, here's where it gets interesting. it turns out that Vlad Dracul is run, attended, and funded by vampires (hence, "vampire high"). vampires can't swim or even get wet or else they could die and a state law requires that every school needs a water polo team. the only solution then is to bring in human kids, like cody, to play water polo and give them free passes/straight A's in the ridiculously hard class curriculum.

i'm not going to give too much away here but let me say this: cody freaking rocks. he becomes best friend with the school nerd, he dates the vampire princess, he fights the school bully, he mouths off to the vampire principal, he's escorted to class by a giant wolf, and he decides he doesn't want phony grades anymore. you'll have to find out for yourself how he does it and what other twists and turns the story takes. i will say this though; the school has a librarian who can turn into a wolf and if that's not the most awesome thing you've ever heard then i don't know how to help you.

so anyways, check it out. it's Vampire High, by Douglas Rees. we should have a copy or two in our teen section. see ya next time.

niles aka the librarian who, sadly, can't turn into a wolf =(

Niles put Redwall down, you want to start with Lord Brocktree or Martin the Warrior they were not written in chronological order.
