What Niles is Reading vol 1

hey guys!

i decided i'd start doing a regular--probably weekly--edition of what i'm going to call "What Niles is Reading." it's pretty self explanatory; every week i'll post an update about one of the books i'm reading or have read that i think you guys might be interested in. that way, if you want to be as cool as me (and let's face it, who doesn't?) you can check out the books for yourselves. sound good? good! let's begin!

the first book i'll be talking about is one some of you should be familiar with, possibly even have read already. it's called, The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp, by Rick Yancey.

alfred kropp is a high school student. he's not a smart guy. he's big, but not in a good way. he's clumsy. he doesn't know how to talk to girls. he's pretty much a loser. it only gets worse after his mother dies and he has to move from ohio to tennessee to live with his security guard uncle, who is always messing around with some get-rich-quick scheme or another. the real adventures begin when one of uncle farrell's scheme's actually pans out. the two of them are hired to steal a precious artifact--a sword--from a commercial sky scraper. some how they successfully pull off the caper, but once they have the sword everything, and i mean EVERY-THING, goes wrong. the sword is actually the fabled excalibur and as such, has a slew of magical properties as well as people who want to get their hands on it.

this book has it all: car chases, shoot outs, espionage and intrigue, betrayals and even a few chopped off heads. so if you didn't read it before, when we had the chance to actually speak with the author, read it now. it's good. i'm pretty sure we have a copy or two over in the teen area.
