UFOs

So yeah this is what happens when Luke starts to think while watching the history channel.

But anyway . . .

I thought it would be interesting to have a discussion: What are everyone's opinions on UFOs? Are they real? Is everything a government conspiracy?

I know this isn't 'literary', but its an interesting discussion.

Luke my Friend, You have just opened a huge can of worms. I personally believe UFOs do exist however they are not the frequent events the theorists would have you believe they are. I wrote a report on the subject a few years ago I'll have to dig it out

luuuuuuuuke!
welcome! good discussion topic. personally, i do think (some) UFOs are the genuine life-from-deep-space-travelling-to-earth-to-party real deal. i emphasize "some," though; as in a very few. i also think that a good deal of them are faker than fake. i tend to subscribe to the douglas adams school of thought. i think there is a whole bunch of life out there that just doesn't bother to come see us because earth is way too far out in the cosmic boonies. what does everyone else think?

Hey Luke,
It's good to see you here! Yes, I think you should be able to start discussion topics. It is my hope that we'll all be good kiddies and respect the opinions of others and enjoy.

As to UFO's, I believe they are out there somewhere. The universe is just too large (yes, that's a bit Carl Sagan of me). However, I don't believe that I believe they've come here yet. I say it that way because I don't really know--I can't know. "Belief" and "knowledge" are too very different things.

Way to go Niles! (He tied it to a book, now that's a good librarian)

My report in brief consists of two major points the law of large numbers and the law of averages and page one is almost done so I will post the beginning in a day or two

Niles as for the Douglas Adams school of thought we are really not that far in the cosmic backwater as it were also we are in a crucial stage in the evolution of our culture and it would be quite a thing to watch so, in the near impossible event we have not been visited by aliens we will be soon. It's really not possible that even if we are the cosmic backwater Adams suggests we would still be a very interesting planet. Think over a million types of animal life and perhaps the widest climate range in over a parsec it is inconceivable that we as a planet would not be at least studied as we are a primitive people but with an amazing capacity for growth and learning.

another thought . . . well, i dont know how many of you have seen the movie Contact? well, if you havent you should. but anyway theres a quote from it that says: 'If there's no one else out there, God wasted an awful lot of space' or something like that.

-Luke Richerson

-and no, you're not my father
